Fred, I am delighted to get your report! I will pass along your comments to my contact with the Quebec tourism authority, who I know will be pleased! Its certainly special to spend time in an area that is part of your family history...in 2007, I visited the tumble-downed ruins of a one-room house in Tralee, Ireland with my mother that had been the family "ancestral home." We each took a piece of rock from its crumbling walls as a piece of our heritage. A family of 14 had lived in the structure, which was about the size of my current living room. Fred, I am glad our paths crossed and hope you will continue to visit VFTP!

Hi, Meg
I want to thank you again for your Boston Globe article on Ile of Orleans, Quebec. We're just back from a wonderful week on the island and in Quebec. We stayed at your recommended spot of Auberge La Goeliche, and at Auberge Canard Huppe. Both were excellent. Views and comfort were a plus at La Goeliche, and the meals were excellent. The best meal we had was the 7 course meal prepared by Chef Philip Rae of the Canard Huppe. It was part of his island package that included a night's lodging, dinner and breakfast. We're planning on going back next year and will return to these two places, but will also try the Arms of Morpheus.
I had very low expectations for Ancestry Park, but was pleasantly surprised. People were very friendly and knowledgeable about local genealogy and books on the subject. I bought a book there for $86 entitled The Isle of Orleans by Michel Lessard. It is written in French so this is a struggle for those like me who don't speak the language. The treasury of photos and plethora of local history made the book irresistible for me. It's a great cocktail table book that's hard to put down.
I'm saving your Globe article. It certainly captures the essence of the isle and is a good reference.
Thanks again
